Damage to auto glass is quite common and it can happen almost anywhere under hundreds of different circumstances. 1-800-Windshield can help you repair or replace your auto glass.  We are dedicated to helping the people of New Orleans with with superior repair service at affordable   Anything that comes in contact with your auto glass with enough velocity, can cause damage, regardless of its size.  The Saint’s flag on the car in front of you can fly off and take a chip out of your windshield.  Beads tossed at Mardi Gras can leave scratches behind.  Vandals can do damage to side windows.  Gravel trucks on route to rebuild areas of the city could scatter asphalt and create chips on the glass.  Regardless of the cause, it is extremely important that you repair all auto glass damage.

Why is important to repair broken auto glass?

Auto glass damage can be much more severe than most people realize.  Among the problems caused by auto glass damage include:

  • Worsening auto glass damage. Auto glass damage will never resolve itself or get better on its own.  In fact, just the opposite is true.  Windshield damage expands and transforms over time.  A small chip can turn into extensive cracks.  This can have a major impact on the cost of repairs.  What could once have been fixed for less than $50 may end up costing more than $1,000.
  • Lack of defense against the elements. Windshields help keep the inside of your vehicle dry, cool, partially shaded, and bug-free.  Driving around in a vehicle with a compromised windshield can leave you wet from the Louisiana rains, sweaty from the New Orleans humidity, and bitten by the bayou mosquitoes.  Those same elements that may annoy us can also destroy an interior of a vehicle, potentially causing thousands in damages.
  • Failure to protect occupants from airborne debris. Windshields are called shields for a reason.  They protect vehicle occupants from being struck by rocks, chunks of concrete, strips of rubber, and other potentially dangerous objects.  Without this protection, we are at serious risk of injury.  A small pebble may not seem frightening, but if it hits your vehicle with enough force to chip auto glass, imagine what it could do your body,  If it were to strike you in a sensitive area such as the nose or the eye, the damage create serious impairment.
  • Reduction in visibility for the driver. Windshields need to be clear so that the driver can clearly see where he or she is going.  Otherwise, they would be made of a less breakable material than auto glass, such as metal.  When auto glass is damaged, it loses some of its clarity, making it harder for the driver to clearly see.  Drivers whose view of the road has been impeded are much more likely to be involved in an accident.  All accidents are serious, but some are more serious than others.  The best case scenario is that everyone walks away with mild car body damage and potentially a higher monthly payment to their insurance.  Although certainly frustrating, that option is far preferable to some of the more serious consequences of accidents such as totaled vehicles and life-threatening injuries.

How much will it cost to repair my auto glass damage?

That depends on a number of factors, including severity and location of the damage and make, model, and year of the vehicle.  However, the biggest determinant of cost is whether your auto glass can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced.

  • Repair with Adhesive. Comparatively minor damage is often repairable through the use of chemical adhesives.  These adhesives stop the damage from spreading and spare the owner for paying for a whole new windshield.  Repair generally costs between $30 and $200.
  • Windshield Replacement. In many cases, the damage is either too extensive for adhesives to be effective or located in an area that would permanently leave the driver with impaired vision even if the damage was repaired.  When this happens, the entire windshield must be removed and replaced.  Replacement costs more than repair, usually between $200 and $1,500, but can also lead to higher levels of safety and customer satisfaction.
