How do we know when we need to contact 1-800-Windshield?

Most auto glass damage is very noticeable. The large cracks that are caused by wind driven debris, and the bull’s eyes created by large hail hitting our windshields are the obvious ones. These need to be repaired immediately because they can create very dangerous driving situations. It is the smaller damages that often negate repair that also need to be found and fixed before they become major issues. To do this:

• As soon as possible after you have heard something strike your windshield, or after we have received some hail, from inside of your vehicle, carefully examine your windshield. In the case of hail, also examine your rear window as well. Look for spots where the sun’s rays refract as they enter the car. These refractions will indicate where there may be a chip in the glass. Look also for any tiny cracks that might now exist.   
• Standing outside of the car, look at the windshield from an angle. Do this from both sides of the vehicle. Again, look for those spots where the sunlight does not pass directly through the windshield, but refracts slightly. Next, follow the perimeter of the glass all the way around, looking for tiny cracks.
• At the same time, check the rubber gasket that surrounds your windshield, and the one surrounding your rear window. Look for spots on the gaskets that have been torn or have deteriorated. Damaged gaskets can lead to water leaking in around your auto glass.
• If you find chips or dings, small cracks, or torn and worn window seal gaskets, contact us. Have those minor repairs completed before they become serious and dangerous.
