Auto glass damage can happen despite all of your best efforts to prevent it.  You could be driving down I-30 when the tire of the eighteen-wheeler ahead of you explodes, sending pieces of rubber into your windshield.  You could be stopped at a light on US-65 when a driver rear ends you with enough force to crack your glass. You could even be tailgating at the Razorbacks game when a poorly thrown football goes straight into your windshield.  It doesn’t matter how the damage happened, what does matter is that you get it repaired as soon as possible.

Why is it necessary to repair a broken windshield?

Windshields perform a number of very important functions.  Once damaged, the windshield may be compromised. These are important factors to consider:

  • Windshield damage can cost more if you ignore it. When intact, auto glass is highly resilient.  Damaged windshields lose this resiliency and deteriorate as a result.  Scratches and chips deepen into cracks.  Cracks slowly inch their way forward and multiply.  The glass in between cracks eventually falls out entirely.  Because there can be a dramatic difference in cost between repairing mild damage and severe damage, you could pay more by waiting to repair your windshield even if nothing else happens.
  • Safety while driving can be compromised. Windshield damage can make it very challenging for the driver to clearly see through the auto glass, which in turn can increase the probability of an accident.  The law enforces clear visibility while driving and you will receive a ticket if your damaged windshield obstructs your view.
  • Preventing injury by maintaining structural integrity. When the auto glass is in tact, it supports the integrity of the entire vehicle's structure.  Upon collision, the vehicle will maintain its crumple zones and protect the passengers and driver. Collisions with other vehicles, living creatures, or inanimate roadside objects can prove to be disastrous, even deadly, if the windshield is not in tact. A damage windshield can even affect the proper function of the vehicle's airbag and safety restraint system.

How is auto glass repaired?

While there are many different methods of windshield repair, most of require either adhesive repair or a full replacement.

Repair with adhesives

  • Adhesive are applied to the auto glass with specially-designed tools.  These adhesives bind to the sides of the broken glass.  Once dried, the adhesives seal the glass and connect the damaged edges together.
  • Adhesives will stop damage from spreading and eliminate the need to replace the windshield entirely.
  • Repair with adhesives has the joint benefits of being comparatively inexpensive and taking comparatively less time to complete.
  • Although almost always the preferred solution, adhesive chemicals do have limitations.  They are considerably less effective when the damage goes through the glass.
  • They cannot repair damage which is particularly severe and/or extensive.
  • Adhesives will never restore the clarity of the glass.

Full replacement

  • To replace a windshield, all glass must be completely removed and a whole new windshield must be installed.
  • Replacing auto glass has more variables in terms of cost and time than repair because there is a greater range of materials and number of man hours involved.
  • In some cases, the owner may have the option of choosing between several different replacement options. We elect to use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts for the best results.
