Is Your Windshield Chipped, Cracked Or Shattered In Salinas, California?

If your vehicle is showing signs of auto glass damage, then you need to call 1-800-Windshield. We are dedicated to providing the people of Salinas with the highest level of professional auto glass repair.  So when you sustain any kind of damage to your windshield, be it a chip, crack or complete shatter, know you can depend on our local expert to get you safely back on the road.

Damage to windshields is a common occurence throughout Salinas and the rest of the county. Airborne debris over roads like US-101 can fly into auto glass and cause chips and cracks. Heavy traffic at intersections like the corner of N. Main Street and W. Market Street can instigate accidents which break a windshield entirely. Even the tremors from earthquakes can knock loose overhanging objects in garages and send them falling straight through auto glass. When damage happens, call our local repair expert to have it fixed quickly.

How is a windshield repaired?

There are a number of different methods of windshield repair, but most can be assigned to one of two categories.

  • Repair with Adhesives. Certain chemicals can bond with broken glass and hold it together. Applying these adhesives with special tools can halt the spread of windshield damage. This process doesn’t restore the windshield to its original state, but it does eliminate the need to replace the windshield, at least temporarily.
  • Full Auto Glass Replacement. Some windshields cannot or should not be repaired. Such windshields must be replaced, a process which involves clearing out any remaining auto glass and installing a new windshield.

Should I repair or replace my windshield?

We can’t answer that until you bring in your car for inspection. There are so many variables involved that must be considered, including:

  • Feasibility. Adhesives can be extremely effective, but they can only do so much. For example, adhesives cannot replace or re-attach missing pieces of glass, making replacement necessary. Although auto glass is very strong, it can only take so much. It is possible for damage to greatly weaken the integrity of the glass that no amount of adhesive will be able to restore it. This is most evident where damage is very extensive, but even comparatively minor damage can necessitate windshield replacement. Adhesives have a hard time holding together damage which extends all the way through the glass, meaning that cracks will often continue to spread (and eventually need to be replaced) even after repair.
  • Safety. One of the major problems with windshield damage is that it reduces visibility. Cracks and chips are just harder to see through than intact glass. This reduction in visibility leads to an increase in the likelihood that the driver will be involved in an accident. These risks are especially important to consider in an area such as Salinas, which has a combination of heavy traffic and mountain roads. Adhesives can prevent damage from spreading, but they generally can’t restore the glass to its original, unblemished condition. This means that the reduced visibility will remain. If the driver’s view of the road is therefore compromised, repair might not be safe, even if it is technically possible.
  • Cost. Different methods of repair have different costs. These differences in cost are the result of differences in the methods themselves. Adhesive repair requires far less material and man hours than replacement, and therefore has lower associated parts and labor costs. The make, model, and year of the vehicle in question dictate which replacement parts must be used, which in turn influences price. Although it is impossible to make any definitive statements about cost without first examining your vehicle, costs tend to fall into general ranges. Windshield repair normally runs between $30 and $200, while full replacement typically costs between $200 and $1,500. Insurance also plays a role in determining cost. Every policy is different with regards to how they treat repair and replacement, as well as what is a necessary repair and what is not.
