Do You Need a Windshield Repaired in Vallejo, California?

If you have a broken windshield, then 1-800-Windshield can help.  Our members provide quality auto glass repair and replacement services to residents of Vallejo and surrounding areas. Vallejo is home to many potential hazards for auto glass.  Airborne debris over roads such as I-80 and I-505 can chip or crack glass when struck.  Automobile accidents can shatter glass, especially those at busy intersections such as the corner of Florida and Solano. Falling objects such as tree limbs can damage windshields even when our vehicles are safely parked in our own driveways.  If your windshield has been damaged by any cause, it is imperative that you repair it as quickly as possible.

Why do I need to repair my windshield?

Windshield damage is more serious than most people realize, even when it is comparatively minor.  There are a number of reasons why windshield repair is necessary, including:

  • Prevention of Worse Windshield Damage. Driving at high speeds puts a great deal of stress on windshields.  Although auto glass is designed to withstand this stress, damaged glass is no longer able to.  This means that windshield damage almost always worsens over time.  Chips become cracks.  Cracks grow longer and longer.  Eventually, the entire windshield will need to be replaced at a much higher cost than a quick repair would have been.
  • Prevention of Accidental Collisions. In order to drive safely, the driver must have the ability to clearly see the road.  Windshield damage reduces the clarity of the auto glass and therefore hinders the driver’s ability to see out.  Drivers with compromised vision are far more likely to be involved in an accident, and accidents are always very dangerous.  This is especially true in an area with roads that are as busy as those in Vallejo.  In the best case scenario, only minor vehicle damage and a possible insurance hike will result, but major accidents can result in totaled vehicles and the loss of life.
  • Injury Prevention. Windshield damage can lead to a number of injuries.  Although the most severe injuries are likely to result from accidental collisions, damaged windshields can result in injury even if no accident occurs.  Those same airborne objects which can chip and crack windshields would strike vehicle occupants directly if that windshield wasn’t there to block them.  Although a small chunk of asphalt may not seem especially dangerous, it can cause real damage when struck at a high enough speed, especially if it hits in a sensitive part of the body such as the head or face.
  • Vehicle Damage Prevention. As is the case with injury, the worst vehicle damage is caused by accidental collisions. However, damage can still occur even if the vehicle isn’t moving at all.  Windshields seal the interior of a vehicle off from the outside world, a world full of potentially destructive forces.  Rain water can destroy sensitive electronics and cause mildew to form on seating material.  Unfiltered sunlight can blister and warp console plastic and leather.  Wildlife such as insects and raccoons can destroy virtually any interior component in an attempt to find food or shelter.

How much will it cost to repair or replace my auto glass?

That cannot be answered for sure until the repairs are complete because the cost of material and amount of labor necessary is impossible to know with certainty until everything has been completed.  In general, the cost will be heavily determined by what repairs are necessary.

If the windshield can be repaired without replacement, costs typically run between $30 and $200.  If the auto glass is not salvageable and must be replaced, then costs will likely be much higher.  Replacement is more variable in cost than repair because the costs of windshields for different vehicles vary dramatically, as does the number of man hours necessary to install them.  Some common vehicles for which replacement parts are readily available can have a new windshield installed for around $200, while the same procedure for certain rare or difficult to work with vehicles may cost $1,500 or more.  Depending on your insurance policy, you will likely not end up paying the entire cost of more expensive repairs, but how much you will have to pay will be determined by a number of factors.
