Is Your Windshield Broken In Charleston, South Carolina?

If you have a windshield in need of repair or replacement in Charleston, then 1-800-Windshield is the number to call.  We can solve all of your auto glass service needs at a competitive price. Windshields can get damaged in a number of ways, but most of them involve an object striking the glass in some manner.  Possible examples include rocks, sticks, birds, and other airborne objects.  Windshields often break as a result of automobile collisions, both with other vehicles and stationary roadside objects.

What does windshield damage mean for me?

Windshields damage can cause a number of problems for vehicle owners.  On a basic level, broken windshields can be an extreme safety hazard.  Chips, cracks, and scratches in auto glass can make it much more challenging for drivers to see the road ahead of them.  This substantially increases the likelihood of a collision or other accident, potentially turning a small crack into thousands of dollars in damages and medical expenses.  Broken windshields also fail to provide the protection which is why we have them in the first place.  Windshield damage may put vehicle occupants at risk of injury from being struck by the same type of flying debris that caused the damage in the first place, as well as placing the vehicle’s interior at risk of being degraded by the elements.  The local conditions of Charleston such as heat, humidity, and rain can be especially harsh on vehicle interiors.

How is a windshield repaired?

  • Repair. Most small chips and scratches, as well as some small cracks, can be repaired with the use of special tools and adhesives.  The goal of repair is to stabilize the glass to prevent the damage from worsening, thereby eliminating the need to fully replace the windshield.  In most circumstances, repair is considerably cheaper than replacement (often less than $100) and takes substantially less time to complete (often less than an hour).  Unfortunately, repair is not always possible, and sometimes where it would be possible, it cannot be done in a manner that leaves driver with an unimpeded view of the road.
  • Replacement. In those cases where repair is not possible, (usually where the damage is severe or located in the driver’s direct line-of-sight) full replacement of the auto glass is the only option.  Replacement involves removing any remaining auto glass and installing a new windshield.  Replacement is typically more costly, both because windshields are more expensive than repair equipment, and a much larger amount of labor.  Replacement is also more time consuming than repair, especially if parts must be specially ordered.

How much will it cost?

The cost of windshield repair varies wildly from case to case.  A number of factors determine cost, such as the extent, type, and location of the damage and the make, model, and year of the vehicle.  If you want to use specific parts, your costs might go up or down as well.  In general, costs will range from less than $100 for simple repairs to over $1,500 for replacement of certain vehicles.  The only way to know for sure is to have your vehicle examined by an auto glass professional, such as the members of 1-800-Windshield.
