Windshield Replacement and Repair in Houston, TX

Have you ever been driving along and had a rock or any object hit the windshield of your vehicle?  If so, you are one of the hundreds in the Houston area who know the sinking feeling of sustaining damage to your auto glass. When you experience that unexpected chip, crack or shatter, call 1-800-Windshield without delay.  The extent of the damage will vary depending upon a number of factors, but the essential issue is whether the crack or other damage can be repaired, or whether you’ll need a completely new windshield.

What are the potential risks of windshield damage?

Auto glass serves a number of functions, and it will continue to do so as long as it is not broken.  Once the integrity of the glass has been compromised, these functions can no longer be performed as well or possibly at all.  Some of the functions that windshields may not be able to perform if broken include:

  • Protection of Vehicle Occupants. As the name would suggest, windshields act as a shield that protects drivers and passengers from being struck by airborne debris.  There are thousands of objects flying above our roads at any time, any of which could hit a person with a missing windshield.  While most of these objects are minimal in size, they can cause significant injury to human flesh when hit at the very high speeds which modern vehicles travel.
  • Protection of Vehicle Interiors. Windshields also serve to protect the interior of a vehicle from potentially destructive elements.  The environment of Houston can be very hard on sensitive interior parts.  The summer heat can warp and melt plastic and leather. Showers and humidity can short out electronic equipment and destroy seat fabrics.  Airborne debris can scratch and chip any part of a vehicle.  If exposed to the natural world for long enough, most interior components will degrade and eventually need to be replaced.
  • Providing a Clear View of the Road. The protective features of windshields could best be provided by material other than glass such as metal or plastic.  However, such opaque materials would not allow the driver to see the road in front of him or her, thereby making it impossible to safely go anywhere.  Auto glass is an excellent substitute, because it is both strong and clear.  Windshield damage can destroy this clarity by making it more challenging for the driver to see around or through the auto glass.  Once a driver’s view of the road has been compromised, his or her risk of being involved in an accident goes up.  As we all know, accidents can be very serious, potentially resulting in a vehicle being completely totaled or even death.

How will 1-800-Windshield repair my auto glass?

The answer to that question is impossible to determine without examining your vehicle, because different forms of windshield damage will require different solutions.  For the most part, minor damage will be repaired through the use of adhesive chemicals that bond the glass together and prevent damage from worsening.  Damage which proves impossible to repair safely may necessitate full auto glass replacement.  Replacement is both considerably more expensive and time consuming in most cases, but it is often the only solution available.

Will I need to repair or replace my windshield?

That is determined by a number of factors, including:

  • Nature of the Damage. Chips and scratches are more likely to be repairable than other forms of damage, as they do not compromise the integrity of the glass to the same extent.  Cracks are usually not repairable, and missing glass always necessitates full replacement.
  • Size and Extent of the Damage. The more extensive the damage is, the less likely it is to be repairable. Only a full assessment by an expert cand determine what the safest option will be.
  • Location of the Damage. Some damage that would be repairable if located outside of a driver’s direct line-of-sight may not be.  Particularly if it blocks the view of the road.  Although adhesives are very successful, they do not fully restore the clarity of the glass.
